Volunteers Across the Nation
A recent rash of severe weather has wreaked havoc on thousands of lives. These situations have created numerous opportunities for our volunteers to serve and be the hands and feet of Christ.
Oklahoma experienced numerous fires.
In the Stillwater area, On Mission Network fire recovery teams are working daily to address the needs of 140 homes that have requested their assistance.
Volunteers are suiting up in protective suits and working with ash to help people recover personal belongings and take the first steps forward in recovery. On the first day, teams found jewelry that had been passed down as well as a sabre a son had from the Air Force.
Missouri is reeling after strong tornadoes.
Steve Davis has lived in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, for 58 years, and he is a survivor of the tornadoes that tore through his town two weeks ago.
The storm system sirens went off three times before Davis, his son and his dog took shelter in the laundry room to wait out the tornado. They didn’t hear any loud noises as the tornado passed over, but they were met with devastation the second they stepped outside after it was gone.
“It was just a mess,” said Davis. “Kind of a war zone. It was a miracle we weren’t injured.”
On Mission Network volunteers were able to start work on Davis’s home a mere two days after the tornadoes.
“Praise the Lord,” said Davis. “You guys got up here quickly to help this area, and that’s a blessing. You’re doing a wonderful job, and we’re glad to have you here.”
South Texas is flooded after immense amounts of rain in a short time.
Volunteers are still rebuilding homes in North Carolina and providing services in California.
If you are able to volunteer, please do. If you are able to donate, please do. Both of these avenues help OMN be light to people in their dark days.
