Coming together to serve after the Hill Country floods
When catastrophic floods overwhelmed the Texas Hill Country, communities along the river faced devastating losses that echoed globally, drawing heartfelt prayers and a remarkable spirit of service from around the world.
At the time news of the flooding broke, two On Mission Network (OMN) staff members were attending an international aid conference overseas. Immediately, fellow attendees approached them, expressing solidarity and offering prayers for Texas. This spontaneous outpouring of compassion underscored the global unity in faith and action during crises.
Back home, OMN quickly mobilized volunteers to serve in severely impacted areas including Kerrville, San Angelo—where more than 12,100 structures suffered damage—San Saba and Menard. The call to service was answered widely, exemplified by a Global Methodist church sending a dedicated volunteer team all the way from Ohio in mid-July.
The response from the broader Church community has been inspiring.
Methodist, Baptist, non-denominational and various other faith groups united, embodying a true spirit of collaboration and service.
"It is profoundly moving to witness the Bride of Christ actively serving as the hands and feet of Jesus," remarked OMN President Rand Jenkins. "The depth of spiritual care being provided is exceptional and continues to be essential as recovery progresses."
Through tremendous volunteer support, significant practical relief has also been achieved. Homes have been cleared of mud and debris, and rebuilding efforts are underway, bringing tangible hope to affected families. To date, OMN volunteers and direct partners have dedicated more than 21,952 hours to chaplaincy services, mud-out operations, laundry support, chainsaw work, heavy equipment management and providing essential shower facilities for impacted communities.
These efforts vividly illustrate the transformative power of active faith in action, turning tragedy into a remarkable testimony of hope and restoration.
Please continue to pray for the survivors and those impacted by these floods, as well as for the volunteers serving.
We are currently partnering with Texans On Mission to provide volunteer opportunities. TXM is seeking teams of volunteers at this time, rather than individuals.
